Neuroradiology

Neuroradiology focuses on the diagnosis of abnormalities in the brain, spine and peripheral nervous system using imaging modalities such as CT and MRI and ultrasound. Additionally most advanced diagnostic and minimally invasive procedures are performed by neuroradiologists to treat disorders relating to head, neck and spine. Interventional neuroradiology is a specialty that treats cerebrovascular disorders such as cerebral aneurysms, arterio-venous malformations and fistulae.

Neuroradiology encompasses intensive evaluations including radiographs, CT scans, MRI, angiography, arteriography, myelography, discography, facet joint injections, epidural steroid and nerve root injections. Common conditions treated include head, neck and spine tumors, trauma, stroke, aneurysms, and carotid stenosis. Aneurysms or vascular malformations are treated with endovascular occlusion. Angioplasty is a specialized treatment that treats carotid stenosis.
